He got in touch. what now??? help...?

i finally told the guy who i was seeing for the past 4 months that i was letting go, because he kind of started seeing his ex again... and he left me alone for a day and then today called me a few times and i didn't answer so he texed me saying i was to answer the phone and who did i think i was to leave him just as i wished, that he missed me, needed me and he thought me and him were meant to be there for one another... i texed him back saying it hurt too much and felt as though he had just used me till things with his ex were sorted again, he said it wasn't like that at all, it was because they had been together for 5 years and he didn't know how to let go... after that i just changed my number and haven't left a way for him to contact me... have i done the right thing???
